In April 2020, SPbSAU took part in the selection of federal state educational organizations with preparatory departments, preparatory faculties for foreign nationals and stateless persons to get education funded by the budget of Russian Federation within the quota determined by the Russian Government. Foreign students can apply to study under additional general educational programs that provide training for further professional educational programs in Russian in the 2021/2022 academic year.
212 Russian universities took part in the selection. As a result, 202 educational institutions, including our university, passed the selection.
SPbSAU organizes Russian language courses and pre-university training for foreign citizens every year. For example, there are 30 students, divided into two groups of economic and biomedical focus at the university this year.
In the framework of the federal project “Export of Education”, the Government of the Russian Federation set the educational community an ambitious task to increase the number of foreign students studying in Russian universities more than two times. Due to the implementation of this project, the decision was made to create a preparatory department for foreign citizens as a separate structural unit, that will be in charge of recruiting and training potential students of our university.
SPbSAU has been taking part in the training of foreign students within the quota determined by the Russian Government for basic educational programs for several years. The number of such students is increasing annually. 22 students from Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Yemen, Sudan, Benin, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Zimbabwe, Syria, Laos, Zambia were sent to our university within the quota in 2019.
According to recent studies, the largest increase of foreign students in Russia was observed from Egypt (+ 86%) and Algeria (+ 43%) in 2019. Rossotrudnichestvo and the Russian Ministry of Education and Science are in charge of the allocation of quotas for training of foreign citizens. There was a proposal to increase quotas for citizens of Iran, Vietnam, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, due to the fact that there has recently been an increased demand for education in the Russian Federation in these countries in 2020.
